AccuFlow developed an innovative technology platform for drug-delivery devices intended for combined use with specialized pharmaceuticals. Within the project, MD-Lab focused on the mechanical pump subsystem: selecting suitable motion mechanisms, designing compact transmission stages, optimizing gear geometry and validating the resulting concepts through simulation and experimental rigs.
HEV (High Energy Ventilator) was a CERN-affiliated emergency ventilator initiative developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project aimed to create a high-quality, versatile and lower-cost medical ventilator design, developed in consultation with medical professionals and based on accessible components. Within the HEV effort, MD-Lab focused on the modelling and design of a scroll compressor capable of supplying compressed air to the ventilator system.
The Heart Perfusion project develops a blood-free ex-vivo system for keeping donor hearts viable, assessable and recoverable between organ retrieval and transplantation. Enabled by a patented T3-hormone solution developed by the Department of Pharmacology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a redesigned perfusion circuit, the work targets longer preservation windows, simpler logistics and substantially lower operating cost.
A dedicated surgical-assist tool for controlled acetabular cup medialization in total hip arthroplasty. Developed with the 2nd Department of Orthopaedics of Athens General Hospital “G. Gennimatas”, engineered by MD-Lab, and manufactured by Prematech from biocompatible SAE 316L stainless steel, the prototype helps surgeons transfer impaction loads more effectively while preserving cup orientation.
MD-Lab supported a clinical forensic engineering investigation into the mechanical failure of a proximal femoral nail assembly. The project focused on fractographic analysis of the recovered hip screw and sleeve, translating fracture-surface evidence into a clear explanation of how the implant failed.
